Tea bag manufacturers

When sourcing tea bags, the filter material is critical. You should prioritize Food-Grade Heat-Sealable Filter Paper, Non-GMO Corn Fiber (PLA), or Nylon Mesh. PLA is increasingly popular for its biodegradability and eco-friendly profile. Ensure the materials are BPA-free and plastic-filler free to prevent the release of microplastics during steeping. For high-end pyramid bags, ultrasonic sealing technology is preferred over glues to ensure chemical-free integrity.

Suppliers must adhere to strict food safety regulations. For the US market, FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 compliance is mandatory. For the EU, look for EC 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011 certifications regarding food contact materials. Additionally, ISO 22000 or HACCP certifications are essential to verify that the supplier maintains a rigorous Food Safety Management System during production and packaging.

The shape directly impacts the infusion rate and flavor extraction. Pyramid tea bags allow for larger leaf grades and better water circulation, often commanding a higher retail price point. Standard double-chamber rectangular bags are more cost-effective for high-volume retail. Ensure the bag size (e.g., 5x7cm or 6x8cm) is compatible with the intended tea weight (typically 1.5g to 3g) to avoid over-packing, which hinders flavor release.

For B2B buyers, customization is key. Confirm the GSM (grams per square meter) of the filter paper to ensure durability. For outer envelopes, specify Aluminum Foil or Metallized Film to provide a superior moisture and oxygen barrier, extending the shelf life to 18-24 months. If requesting printed tags, ensure they use soy-based food-grade inks to prevent contamination.

The biggest risks are moisture damage during transit and pesticide residue non-compliance. Always request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for each batch. To mitigate logistics risks, ensure the supplier uses desiccants and palletized shipping with moisture-proof wrapping. On Made-in-China.com, you can utilize Audited Suppliers to verify the factory's actual production capacity and hygiene standards.

Focus on volume-based pricing tiers. Suppliers often offer a 10-20% discount when moving from 50,000 to 200,000 units. Negotiate for free plate-making/tooling fees for long-term contracts. Additionally, request FOB (Free On Board) terms to maintain better control over your shipping costs and choose your own freight forwarder for more reliable scheduling.

Use Secured Payment services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment. For large orders, insist on a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) by a third party like SGS or Intertek to verify that the quantity, packaging, and material quality match the Proforma Invoice before the final balance is paid.

Tea is highly sensitive to odors and humidity. Ensure the shipping container is clean, dry, and free from strong-smelling goods (like chemicals or spices). For long-haul sea freight, specify 'Top Stowage' to avoid crushing and keep the goods away from the ship's engine heat. For premium organic teas, consider Climate-Controlled (Reefer) containers if shipping through tropical zones.
